For all editions, actual requirements vary according to the system configuration and the applications and features installed. Below are the basic requirements.

    • 1-GHz (or higher) Pentium III-compatible processor; 2-GHz recommended
    • 1 GB RAM; 4 GB or more recommended (supports maximum of 64 GB)

The 32-bit edition of Microsoft SQL Server can be installed on the Windows on Windows (WOW64) 32-bit subsystem of a 64-bit server.

Interface

The management interface is Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, a graphical management tool with rich scripting capabilities for all Microsoft SQL Server components. Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio includes Policy-Based Management, which can create policies that manage entities on the server. Entities might include the instance of Microsoft SQL Server, databases, and other Microsoft SQL Server objects.

Licencing

This product operates on a server/CAL licensing model and includes one server licence. Under this model, you will need a separate licence for each client (client CAL) or device (device CAL) that accesses the server.

This model allows you licence a physical, virtual, or cloud-based server based on the number of users or devices that access it. It is most appropriate for administrators who know the exact number of users and devices that will connect to the server.

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Standard Edition is also available under the core-based model.

32-Bit and x64 Versions

The installation media for this product is a DVD-ROM that can be used for 32-bit, 64-bit AMD, or 64-bit Intel Xeon platforms. The 32-bit version can be installed on the Windows on Windows (WOW64) 32-bit subsystem of a 64-bit server.

Obtaining This Product

Expect three emails:

  1. When your donation request has been approved, SANGOTeCH will send a message to your organisation email address confirming the number of licences you have requested.
  2. Microsoft will send an email welcoming your organisation to the Volume Licencing Service Center (VLSC).
  3. SANGOTeCH will send an email with information about managing your donation at the VLSC. If you are new to the VLSC, you should wait for this email before you register there.
Software Assurance

Under the Software Assurance program, you have the right to install any new release of products covered in the agreement during the term of your coverage.
